Growth

A painting created for an exhibition centered around empowerment.

It speaks about breaking free from limitations—
from cages that were never truly ours to begin with.

A reminder to stand in our own power,
and to choose what we want for ourselves.

The poem within the piece was written by me,
and is inspired by Still I Rise by Maya Angelou:

and we keep on rising, just like Maya said we would.
we stand in our power, ’cause we know that we should.
the caged birds are imprisoned no more.
freedom!, I shout—
to the heavens we soar.
we’ve got intelligent minds.
what we focus on grows.
so we pour love into our souls,
no matter what life throws.
we are bold—
that’s growth.
